迪克-范-阿斯代尔1943年2月22日出生于美国印第安纳州印第安纳波利斯，是太阳队扩张选秀选中的第一名球员，也是队史第一分的获得者。

阿斯代尔生涯三次入选全明星，1976年成为球队第一次杀入NBA总决赛的一员，1977年他以当时球队历史得分王（12060分）的身份退役。
